Stainless steel electrode should not only meet the general welding process performance and mechanical properties of welding joint, but also ensure that the welding joint can meet the requirements of corrosion resistance. For the coating and core, the following requirements should be considered:
1) Through the transition of various alloy elements between the core and the coating, the weld metal can be made into austenite and ferrite with a certain amount, so as to ensure that the weld metal has good crack resistance and corrosion resistance of corresponding medium.
2) A certain amount of carbide forming elements (such as niobium, molybdenum, titanium, etc.) can be infiltrated into the weld metal through the welding core or coating, which can form stable carbides with carbon to prevent the formation of chromium carbide at the grain boundary.
3) The increase of carbon will cause intergranular corrosion of austenitic stainless steel (or ferritic stainless steel) weld. Therefore, the carbon content in the welding core and coating raw materials should be strictly controlled. It is recommended to use low-carbon or ultra-low-carbon solder core, and use low-carbon or carbon free ferroalloy and metal element as raw materials for coating.
4) The content of sulfur and phosphorus in stainless steel solder core and coating should be strictly controlled to reduce the risk of weld hot crack.
