A dazzling white, shiny, face-centered cubic structured metal, silver boasts softness and ductility second only to gold. It is an exceptional conductor of heat and electricity and remains unreactive with water and atmospheric oxygen. However, it turns black when exposed to ozone, hydrogen sulfide, and sulfur. While inert to most acids, silver dissolves swiftly in dilute nitric acid and hot concentrated sulfuric acid. Hydrochloric acid can cause surface corrosion, and it dissolves in molten alkali hydroxide, peroxide alkali, and alkali cyanide in the air or with oxygen presence. Most silver salts are light-sensitive and insoluble in numerous acids.
